The Rhapsody

Director • Producer • Editor • Writer

Winner: Hong Kong Film Festival, Boca Raton Film Festival

The Rhapsody is a documentary that unfolds like a thriller. It is the astonishing story of composer Leo Spellman, a ninety-eight year old Holocaust survivor who sets out on a riveting and emotional journey towards artistic liberation.

The film features a musical masterpiece lost for more than fifty years, a secret wartime diary revealed for the first time, powerful live orchestral performances, and a gripping account of survival told through animation with narration by Stephen Fry.

The film has won awards in Hong Kong and the USA and played in festivals around the world. Hollywood North Magazine called it “Absolutely the best documentary I’ve seen all year.” More review clips can be seen on the poster.

OCD: The War Inside

Director • National Film Board of Canada

Winner: Freddie Award, Chris Award, HeSCA Media Awards, Rendezvous With Madness Film Festival, Superfest, NCFR Awards

I am very proud of my hard-hitting feature length NFB documentary about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.  These are the faces of OCD. They don't look any different on the outside. But inside, a daily war is waged for survival.

The film has won six international awards, been broadcast on PBS, CBC and the Documentary Channel, and shown in film festivals around the world.  I still receive emails from viewers who say it helped change their lives.

Magical Imperfection: The Life and Architecture of Raymond Moriyama

Producer • Editor • Writer

Winner: California Fine Arts Film Festival, Golden Sheaf Award nomination

Magical Imperfection tells the inspirational story of world-renowned Canadian architect Raymond Moriyama.

Moriyama’s acclaimed architectural achievements, including the Ontario Science Centre and the Canadian War Museum, draw upon his life experiences, including the trauma of wartime internment as a Japanese Canadian.

Imprisoned in his own country during the 1940s because of his race, Ray found the strength to combat injustice by devoting his career to social justice and equality.

It was a joy working on this film. Ray recently passed away, but his legacy will live on.
